Makara Jyothi: The celestial light that appears around Jan 14 every year at a hill in the Sahyadri ranges of the Western Ghats in Kerala, India. It is believed that Swamy Ayyappan or Sri. Dharmasaasta or Sri. Hariharaputra (one of the many Gods in the Hindu pantheon), reveals himself as this celestial light to bless his devotees. Millions of pilgrims travel from far and wide to witness this spectacle.
