Agasthyakoodam

Location : Agasthyakoodam is a prominent peak in the Western Ghats, situated at the southernmost tip of Kerala near Trivandrum. It is located about 61 kms away from Trivandrum city.

Attractions: Agasthyakoodam is conspicuous for its height and isolation when seen from a distance. Unlike other hill stations in India, Agasthyakoodam is not a popular picnic spot to stroll around. It is home for a number of rare and endangered medicinal plants and herbs. The fauna here includes wild elephants, gaur, sloth bear, Nilagiri tahr etc. With its rich flora and fauna Agasthyakoodam is now becoming popular among the eco tourists and nature lovers. Virtually untouched by human intervention, this highrange station still houses the rare flora and fauna for posterity. Far from the picnic spot, for a casual traveller, Agasthyakoodam provides the ideal setting for those who love to experience nature in its sublime serenity. It is an ideal place for hard treks and jungle camping.

Getting there:
Agasthyakoodam can be reached only on foot, either from Neyyar Dam (32km from Trivandrum) or from Bonacaudu (61 kms from Trivandrum). Tourists need to get permission from forest officials to enter Agasthyakoodam. Contact the Forest office located at Thycaud, Trivandrum, for permission.

Note: It is recommended to have a professional forest guide to accompany you, as finding your way in the dense forest is near impossible even for experienced travellers.Accommodation facilities are not available in Agasthyakoodam. Kerala Tourism Development Corporation runs a guesthouse at Neyyar dam.
